Ekta Kapoor faces legal scrutiny regarding Alt Balaji; Hindustani Bhau claims her show disrespects armed forces. Court mandates investigation by May 9.
Ekta Kapoor finds herself facing significant legal challenges once again.
The latest controversy surrounds her OTT platform, Alt Balaji, with social media influencer Hindustani Bhau bringing forth accusations of disrespect towards Indian soldiers. Following his allegations, a local court has instructed the Mumbai Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims.
Reports indicate that a magistrate court in Bandra has mandated the Mumbai Police to look into a complaint filed by Hindustani Bhau dating back to 2020. The court has required a report to be produced by May 9, in accordance with Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The roots of this case can be traced back to a complaint issued by Hindustani Bhau against Ekta Kapoor, her streaming service Alt Balaji, and her parents, Shobha Kapoor and Jeetendra. The accusations center on claims that the show in question has disrespected the Indian military.
Hindustani Bhau’s complaint specifically criticizes a certain show on the Alt Balaji platform that illustrates a military officer in a compromising situation while in uniform.
According to the complaint, “The accused have stooped to a cheap low and shamelessly targeted the dignity and pride of our country by depicting Indian Army military uniform in the illicit sexual act with national emblem on it.”
As of now, neither Ekta Kapoor nor the Alt Balaji team has issued a statement regarding the court’s directive.
This incident is not an isolated event for the filmmaker, who has previously encountered legal challenges concerning the content aired on her platform. In 2024, an FIR was filed against her after Jabalpur BJP MLA Abhilash Pandey accused her of portraying “bold content involving children” in the web series Gandii Baat.
