Vivian Wilson, one of Elon Musk’s 14 children, has publicly distanced herself from her father, expressing that she has not had any communication with him for nearly five years. In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, Wilson, who identifies as a transgender woman, voiced her frustration over being associated with the tech mogul.
At 20 years old, Wilson openly criticized Musk’s political views, describing them as “terrifying.” She notably condemned his gesture during Trump’s second inauguration, asserting that it resembled a Nazi salute. “The Nazi salute sh–t was insane. Honey, we’re going to call a fig a fig, and we’re going to call a Nazi salute what it was,” she stated emphatically.
In 2022, Wilson publicly severed ties with her father, to which Musk responded with indifference, claiming, “You can’t win ’em all.” In her recent interview, she elaborated on her views of her father’s political stance, describing it as “cartoonishly evil.”
Reflecting on the broader political landscape during the Trump administration, she expressed dismay at the targeted attacks on marginalized groups, particularly the trans community, migrants, and people of color. “Every time I open my phone to read the news, I kind of just stare at the wall for 10 minutes. It’s horrifying what they’re doing… It’s cartoonishly evil,” Wilson remarked.
Wilson also rejected the notion that her coming out as transgender influenced Musk’s political shift to the right. “It’s such a convenient narrative… Him going further on the right… is not because of me. That’s insane,” she argued, emphasizing that her identity should not be a scapegoat for his political decisions.
The estrangement has extended to her relationships with her siblings, especially in light of recent news regarding Musk’s family. In an acknowledgment of her disconnected family dynamics, Wilson humorously noted, “I do not actually know how many siblings I have, if you include half-siblings. That’s just a fun fact.” She shared how she learned about one of her half-siblings through an online post, stating, “If I had a nickel for every time I found out I had half-siblings through Reddit, I’d have two nickels.”
When questioned about any fear she might harbor towards Musk, she dismissed the notion, calling him “a pathetic man-child” and asserting, “Why would I feel scared of him? I don’t give a f–k.”
Wilson also expressed her discomfort with the glaring wealth disparity she witnesses in Los Angeles, particularly with her family’s affluence juxtaposed against the reality of homelessness. She reflected, “How is this fair? You have to inevitably come to the conclusion it’s not. There is no world in which people should be owning multiple private planes, private islands, private whatever, while other people are sleeping on the street.”
