One individual has lost their life and eleven others have sustained injuries following a shooting incident that occurred in a bustling tourist area of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Saturday night. The local police reported that the violence erupted shortly before midnight in the popular entertainment district of the city.

Officers on duty noticed a “disturbance involving multiple individuals” when the shooting began. According to officials, during the confrontation, a suspect fired a weapon, prompting an officer to respond with their own firearm in an effort to neutralize the threat.

Victims’ Condition and Response

Law enforcement confirmed that eleven people were injured and are currently receiving medical attention. Tragically, the individual involved in the altercation shot by the officer has since died from their injuries. The Horry County Deputy Coroner identified the victim as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis from Bennettsville.

The responding officer was unharmed in the incident. Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune praised the officer’s quick actions, stating that the response played a crucial role in preventing a more devastating outcome. “Our officer saw what happened, and when he recognized that an altercation was occurring and shots were fired, he responded very quickly and, in my opinion, saved lives,” she remarked. “Last night could have been so much worse.”

Mayor Bethune emphasized that the shooting was an isolated incident, highlighting that a large crowd was present on Ocean Boulevard that night. She expressed her confidence in the safety of the area, stating, “This is a great place to visit. It’s not an unsafe place at all.” She acknowledged the challenge of controlling such situations while still encouraging tourism and public gatherings.

Congresswoman Nancy Mace, representing South Carolina, also expressed her condolences, describing her devastation at the tragic event. In a statement on social media, she said, “Our hearts are torn apart for the victims and their families,” stressing South Carolina’s resilience and commitment to addressing violence in communities.

In the aftermath of this incident, the Myrtle Beach Police Department extended its condolences to the victims and their families, stating, “Our hearts and continued prayers are with all those affected during this difficult time.”

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information or video footage pertaining to the incident to contact the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) or the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
