Students in Dade City Engage with NASA Astronaut in Unique Event
Students from Dade City, Florida, are set to participate in a special event featuring NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers, who will respond to pre-recorded inquiries related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from her unique vantage point aboard the International Space Station.
Scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT on Friday, April 11, the 20-minute transmission can be viewed live on NASA+. Interested viewers can also explore other platforms where NASA broadcasts its content, extending the reach of this extraordinary educational experience.
The event, organized by Academy at the Farm and welcoming students and their families, aims to deepen participants’ understanding of space exploration and the ongoing work being executed onboard the space station. Academy at the Farm, a charter school, hopes this engagement will inspire students to pursue interests in STEM fields.
Members of the media wishing to cover this event are required to confirm their attendance by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, by contacting Ashley Cantwell.
For over 24 years, the International Space Station has served as a critical site for astronauts who continuously live and work in space, testing new technologies, conducting scientific research, and developing essential skills for future explorations beyond our planet. The astronauts maintain communication with NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston around the clock via SCaN’s (Space Communications and Navigation) Near Space Network, ensuring a constant link between the station and Earth.
Research and technological development conducted aboard the space station contribute significantly to advancements that benefit life on Earth. Moreover, these efforts are foundational to NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the Moon and set the stage for future human missions to Mars. This initiative seeks to inspire a new generation of explorers and solidify the United States’ position as a leader in space exploration.
