NASA Launches High School Engineering Institute in Cleveland
NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland is set to establish the NASA Glenn High School Engineering Institute this summer, a new initiative aimed at equipping high school students with invaluable skills for the aerospace industry.
Applications are open to rising juniors and seniors in Northeast Ohio from Friday, April 11, until May 9. Students interested in this unique, free, work-based learning experience can find more details and submit their applications online.
The institute is designed not only to provide insight into NASA’s operations but also to prepare participants for future endeavors in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Throughout the course of five days, students will engage with authentic NASA mission materials and collaborate with Glenn’s technology specialists. This hands-on experience will offer them a comprehensive understanding of the engineering design process, fostering their ability to devise innovative solutions to pressing challenges.
Key focus areas during the program include:
- Acoustic Dampening: Exploring solutions for minimizing noise pollution generated by jet engines.
- Power Management and Distribution: Developing intelligent power systems for upcoming space stations.
- Simulated Lunar Operations: Creating airless tire designs suitable for lunar environments.
Program Dates
The selected participants will attend one of the following week-long sessions:
Session 1: July 7 – 11, 2025
Session 2: July 14 – 18, 2025
Session 3: July 21 – 25, 2025
