NASCAR Suspends Conner Jones Following Reckless Incident
NASCAR has imposed a one-race suspension on 18-year-old driver Conner Jones due to his involvement in a wreck that resulted in serious consequences for fellow racer Matt Mills during the recent truck race at Homestead. The incident occurred as the two drivers vied for 17th position, with Jones allowing emotions to dictate his actions. As they approached Turn 3, Jones attempted a bump-and-run maneuver, which subsequently caused Mills’ truck to veer sharply and crash into the wall, igniting into flames upon impact.

I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Matt, Niece Motorsports, NASCAR, and my entire ThorSport Racing team for my unsportsmanlike behavior,” he stated.

After his release from the hospital, Mills shared a video message expressing gratitude for the support he received. Despite describing the situation as “definitely scary,” he did not address Jones directly in his remarks, indicating a focus on his recovery and return to racing.
As for Jones, he was expected to participate in the upcoming race at Martinsville. However, in light of the suspension, ThorSport Racing has announced that veteran driver Johnny Sauter will take over the No. 66 truck. Sauter, a seasoned competitor with over 300 starts and a former Truck Series champion in 2016, has previous experience with the ThorSport team and is set to step in as Jones sits out.
