Netherlands Completes F-16 Deliveries to Romanian Training Facility for Ukraine
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – The Dutch Ministry of Defence confirmed on Wednesday that the last two of the 18 pledged F-16 fighter jets have been delivered to a training center in Romania. This facility is crucial for the training of Ukrainian pilots and ground crew as they prepare to operate and maintain the advanced aircraft in combat scenarios.
In addition to these jets, the Netherlands has committed to providing 24 F-16s directly to Ukraine. The nation has emerged as a key player in the international effort to bolster Ukraine’s air capabilities amid ongoing Russian hostilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has described this military aid as a significant milestone, asserting that it would enhance Ukraine’s defensive posture and support its ongoing counter-offensive operations.
In light of the geopolitical tensions stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Dutch government has also announced a substantial increase in defense spending. Starting next year, defense budgets will rise by over 10%, reflecting an urgent response to security challenges in the region.
