Benedict and Sophie’s romantic journey is set to take the spotlight in Bridgerton Season 4. However, in true Bridgerton fashion, the series often hints at future character developments, leading to fan speculation, especially regarding Eloise.
As the production for Season 4 continues, Netflix has shared a few first-look images to engage the audience. Recently, a photo featuring Eloise and Penelope created considerable buzz online when it was released on March 28.
The image initially appears conventional, showcasing Eloise and Penelope, not only close friends but also sisters-in-law, as they enjoy a lively conversation while holding books during a promenade.
According to showrunner Jess Brownell in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the bond between the two characters has grown stronger in Season 4. “Their experiences from the previous season have enriched their friendship, and we are eager for fans to witness the evolution of their relationship as they mature,” she explained.
However, the seemingly innocuous photo may hold deeper significance. A viral post on Reddit suggests that Eloise’s dress resembles the rings of a tree. A fan pointed out, “Eloise has a dress that looks like the rings inside a tree. Trees create paper. Paper that she will be writing on this season to Phillip! BOOM!”
“Phillip” refers to Sir Phillip Crane, who serves as Eloise’s love interest in the Bridgerton novels. (Warning: Spoilers for the novel To Sir Phillip, With Love.) Although audiences have been introduced to him, the characters only initiate their correspondence and develop a relationship following the passing of his wife, Marina.

This is not the first occasion the Bridgerton team has cleverly utilized costumes to foreshadow upcoming romances. Costume designer Sophie Canale had affirmed in 2022 to People that the green dress worn by Penelope in Season 2 was a deliberate hint pointing to her and Colin being central figures in Season 3.
“Such details are helpful in guiding the trajectory of your characters,” Canale remarked regarding the significance of costumes. This raises the possibility that Eloise’s dress, which has a tree-like appearance, may also serve as an Easter egg, indicating that her communication with Phillip could commence in Season 4.
