In recent developments, Joe Seiders, the drummer of the band New Pornographers, has been arrested on serious charges related to possession of child pornography, as confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in an official news release.
The band expressed their shock and dismay in a statement, conveying that they are “absolutely shocked” and have “immediately severed all ties” with Seiders. A spokesperson elaborated, stating that the entire band feels “horrified and devastated” by the situation and offered their sympathies to all those affected by his actions, as reported by Pitchfork.
The case originated when police were called to investigate what was described as a “suspicious circumstance” in Palm Desert, California, on April 7. Upon their arrival, an 11-year-old boy reported that “an unknown male adult recorded him on a cell phone while he was using the restroom” at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant, as detailed by Pitchfork, which reviewed online records concerning the incident.
Just two days later, law enforcement was alerted to another occurrence at the same location, during which an employee informed officers that a man was seen entering and exiting the restroom accompanied by juvenile males. This led deputies to identify Seiders, aged 44, as the suspect, resulting in his arrest.

As of the latest updates, Seiders is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
