A fresh version of the *Wicked* soundtrack is set to debut tonight at midnight, as announced through a post on Instagram stories. This updated soundtrack will include commentary from the cast and filmmakers, featuring insights from renowned performers Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
The social media teaser presents a brief exchange between Grande and Erivo, where they reflect on the song “What Is This Feeling?” Grande shares her perspective, stating, “You get to see us at our worst, and the things that we don’t like about each other are also the things that we have in common.” Erivo further adds, “You get to be kids, all the comedic timing, catching small little moments. It felt a little bit like a guilty pleasure.”
The original *Wicked* soundtrack, which hit shelves on November 22, 2024, achieved a remarkable milestone of over one billion streams by February of this year. In 2024, it topped Billboard’s charts for Top Album Sales, Soundtracks, and Vinyl Albums, while securing the No. 2 spot on the coveted Billboard 200. This soundtrack has also made history by claiming the highest debut for a movie musical adaptation on the Billboard 200.
Multiple physical formats of the soundtrack have been released, including editions themed after the main characters: a green version for Elphaba and a pink one for Glinda. The offerings also feature exclusive vinyl releases at Target, a standard black vinyl, a standard CD, plus exclusive CDs at Target and Barnes & Noble. Alongside this commentary version, fans can also find a sing-along edition and an album of the score available. More details on the various options can be accessed HERE. Additionally, a new edition is scheduled for release on April 12 in honor of Record Store Day, which will feature the previously digital-only “Ozdust Duet” bonus track. A preview of the soundtrack is also available to stream.
The first installment of the *Wicked* movie received significant recognition at the Oscars, garnering ten nominations, including Best Picture. Both Erivo and Grande were nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. The film ultimately won two Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
Continuing the story, *Wicked: For Good* will adapt the second act of the acclaimed stage musical. This upcoming sequel will follow the characters as they fully embrace their roles as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. Fans can expect to hear beloved songs such as “As Long As You’re Mine,” “No Good Deed,” and “For Good,” along with new tracks, one of which is co-written by Cynthia Erivo. The first promotional poster for the movie has been released, and footage from the recently unveiled trailer at CinemaCon has also generated excitement.
*Wicked* boasts a star-studded cast, including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose. The first part premiered on November 22, 2024, while *Wicked: For Good* is slated to arrive in theaters on November 21, 2025. Meanwhile, *Wicked: Part One* is available for streaming on Peacock.
