Alpaca on the Loose Sparks Unusual Call to New York Police
Authorities in Westchester County, New York, responded to a rather unexpected incident involving an alpaca that had escaped captivity. On Thursday morning, police received a report about a llama running wild on Kisco Avenue. However, upon arrival, they discovered that the animal was not a llama but an alpaca.
The Westchester County Police department shared details of the event on social media, highlighting the quirky nature of the 911 call. “We get all kinds of interesting 911 calls, and that one came in to Commo at 10:09 a.m. today,” the department noted. The police indicated that the caller’s description was fairly accurate considering the range of unusual reports they often encounter.
Alpaca Captured Safely
The wayward alpaca was successfully rounded up by Officers Mirko and Rodriguez, who acted quickly to secure the animal. According to police, it had escaped from a trailer parked near Hotel MTK on Pat Reilly Way before making its way towards Kisco Avenue, close to a Land Rover dealership. In a lighthearted comment, the department mused whether the alpaca was “looking to upgrade its ride.”
Once caught, the officers were able to reunite the alpaca with its owner, joking that “somewhere there’s a kid’s birthday party that went on just as planned.”
More about Alpacas
Alpacas are native to the Andes Mountains in South America and are typically social animals found in herds. They are popular in petting zoos and often feature at children’s events. While closely related to llamas, alpacas represent a distinct species within the camel family, known for their smaller size and gentle demeanor.
