Neymar Eyes Reunion with Barcelona Legends at Inter Miami
Neymar has expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of reconnecting with former Barcelona colleagues Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami. The Brazilian forward shared his thoughts during an interview with CNN Sport, stating that reuniting with his friends in Major League Soccer would be “incredible.”
“They are my friends,” Neymar explained. “We still communicate regularly. Reviving this trio would certainly be fascinating. While I’m currently happy at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, the unpredictability of football means anything is possible.”
Historically, Major League Soccer has faced criticism for being labeled a “retirement league,” characterized by its trend of signing veteran players to leverage their popularity. Although this perception has shifted in recent years, the acquisition of prominent figures like Messi, Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba by Inter Miami has alleged that this stereotype persists.
Despite Miami’s strategy of fostering a Barcelona reunion, Neymar’s potential inclusion could face challenges, particularly with the intricate salary cap rules of MLS creating hurdles for such high-profile player signings.
The 32-year-old’s presence on the field has been limited due to a torn ACL sustained in October during national team duty, following a previous appearance for Al-Hilal in September 2023. His recovery has been complicated by a string of minor injuries that have further delayed his return.
Once considered one of the brightest young talents in global football, Neymar’s career trajectory has changed since departing Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017. The recent ACL injury has raised significant concerns regarding his future in football.
If Neymar were to join Inter Miami, his star power could draw even greater attention to both the club and the league, further enhancing its profile on the international stage. However, from a sporting perspective, such a move might not represent the best financial investment.
