Shedeur Sanders Falls in NFL Draft Rankings

Once considered a potential top-five pick, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders’s draft stock has notably declined, leaving him as one of several quarterbacks selected after the first round. In a surprising turn of events, both Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart secured first-round selections, while the New Orleans Saints opted for Tyler Shough at the 40th overall pick.

The Seattle Seahawks’ unexpected move came at the 92nd pick, where they chose Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Shortly after, the Cleveland Browns also passed on Sanders, selecting Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel instead, despite having had many opportunities to pick him.

This offseason, the Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Raiders and signed Sam Darnold to a hefty three-year, $100 million contract. Despite Milroe’s limited reputation for arm strength, scouts have noted his impressive raw athleticism, which may have influenced the Seahawks’ decision.

Dillon Gabriel made headlines during his final NCAA season, transferring to Oregon, where he led the Ducks to the College Football Playoff as the top seed. Unfortunately for Oregon, they were eliminated by Ohio State, who went on to secure the national championship.

As it stands, five quarterbacks have been taken before Sanders, who expressed surprise at finding himself still available as the draft transitioned into its second night.

Milroe’s collegiate career was marked by significant achievements, including throwing for 5,678 yards and rushing for 1,257 over two seasons at Alabama. He played a pivotal role in leading his team to the Rose Bowl after capturing the SEC championship in the 2023 season, though they fell short against Michigan, who later became national champions.

Meanwhile, Gabriel’s performance earned him a third place in the Heisman Trophy voting, where he led the Big Ten in both completions and attempts, accumulating 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns.

The anticipation continues as other prospects like Quinn Ewers remain waiting for their names to be called, adding an element of intrigue to the ongoing draft.
