New York Giants Select Jaxson Dart in 2025 NFL Draft: Social Media Reacts

The New York Giants have made headlines by trading back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to secure their prospective quarterback, Jaxson Dart. This decision has sparked mixed reactions online, highlighting the divide among fans and analysts regarding the choice.

Opting for Dart, the dual-threat quarterback from Ole Miss, instead of Shedeur Sanders—who garnered significant attention as a star player from the University of Colorado and a finalist for the Heisman Trophy—has prompted debates. The Giants moved up to the 25th overall pick by trading their picks at 34 and 99 in this draft, along with a third-round pick in 2026, to select Dart.

Prior to the Giants’ selection, the focus had shifted when the Pittsburgh Steelers, seeking a new quarterback, chose Derrick Harmon from Oregon with the 21st pick. This left both Dart and Sanders in a precarious position, heightening the anticipation surrounding their draft fates.

Many voices on social media quickly compared Dart to former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who was released after a tumultuous stint with the team. One user expressed disbelief at the choice, saying, “Giants trading up to draft a QB and it’s Jaxson Dart is so unbelievably funny. That’s so Giants.”

Conversely, sports commentator Skip Bayless criticized the selection, tweeting in all caps, “Shedeur Sanders is so much better than Jaxson Dart. This is just laughably sad.”

On the other hand, there were notable supporters of Dart’s selection, including ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, who suggested that interest in one quarterback doesn’t necessarily diminish appreciation for another. He tweeted, “You don’t have to hate Jaxson Dart to support Shedeur Sanders.”

Jon Gruden, the former NFL coach who now covers football for Barstool Sports, lauded Dart’s resilience, stating, “New York Giants fans…you are getting one tough SOB!” as he shared a video analysis of Dart’s performance during his time at Ole Miss.

As memes proliferated across social media in response to the Draft, the contrasting paths of Dart and Sanders were evident. While Dart celebrated his selection, Sanders remained waiting, as he was not picked in the first round and will need to see where he lands later tonight.

In a media interview following his selection, Dart revealed that he maintained communication with Giants head coach Brian Daboll throughout the draft process, even noting a drop in correspondence over the last two weeks. With Daboll as his head coach, Dart expressed excitement for this new chapter, stating, “This is where my journey starts.” He is set to work closely with Russell Wilson, who joined the Giants as a free agent, alongside veteran Jameis Winston, both of whom will share their knowledge and experience as Dart begins his professional career.

As the Giants embark on this new path with Dart, the future of the franchise will become clearer in the coming seasons.
