Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña Discuss ‘Special Ops: Lioness’ Season 2
In a recent conversation with “Extra’s” Melvin Robert, Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña delved into the details of Season 2 of their espionage thriller, “Special Ops: Lioness.”
Kidman plays the role of Kaitlyn Meade, a senior supervisor at the CIA, who serves as a formidable mentor. Saldaña portrays Joe, the station chief of the CIA’s Lioness program.
During the discussion, Kidman reflected on her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September. She emphasized the significant impact her mother had on her life, describing her as a central guiding force. “My mother obviously was a major guide through my life and probably my compass in terms of everything that I did,” Kidman shared. She expressed gratitude for the wisdom she received from both her mother and other influential women throughout her career.
Saldaña’s character, Joe, struggles to balance her professional commitments with family life and mental well-being. She credited her supportive husband, Marco Perego, for making it possible for her to pursue her demanding career. “Having the most supportive partner in life is the only reason why I’m able to do what I want to do,” she stated. Saldaña explained how she redefined conversations about her work with her children, ensuring they recognize her job as something that brings her joy rather than a source of separation from them.
She remarked on the sacrifices involved in Joe’s role, stating, “I can’t imagine what Joe’s life must be like. People that accept and take an oath to sacrifice themselves at any moment at any cost for the sake of other families… I have a great deal of respect.”
Kidman also highlighted the importance of family involvement in her life and work. She and her husband, Keith Urban, make it a priority to keep their family connected in their professional endeavors. “We travel together as a family or it’s structured so that I can come in and leave and come in and leave,” Kidman noted. She referred to their projects as “our shows,” reinforcing the notion of shared family contributions to her career.
Training for the Role
Saldaña touched upon the intense training involved for their roles, mentioning her experience working with an exceptional trainer named Duffy, a retired Special Forces officer. She explained how Duffy’s expertise allowed them to hone their physical skills effectively, stating, “We just put our bodies in his hands and worked with an amazing stunt coordinator.”
Moreover, Saldaña praised creator Taylor Sheridan for assembling a team of former military officers who guided them throughout the preparation process, providing a supportive environment that made the physical training more accessible. “We were guided at every step,” she concluded.
Fans can anticipate the premiere of “Special Ops: Lioness” Season 2 on October 27, exclusively on Paramount+.
