Nintendo Update on Switch 2 Availability Amid High Demand
In a recent announcement on its official website, Nintendo acknowledged the overwhelming interest in the Switch 2, stating that “delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed” for customers who order through its direct sales channel. The message also noted that customers might receive their invitation emails post-launch.
According to prior communication from Nintendo, the initial round of invitations for eligible customers who registered on the My Nintendo Store is set to be sent out on May 8th. The criteria for eligibility appear to be stringent, ostensibly aiming to prevent scalper activities which have plagued previous console launches.
As recently indicated, consumers in the United States are experiencing significant demand for the Switch 2 via Nintendo’s direct sales, much like the scenario in Japan. Those hoping to secure a unit from this platform should be prepared for potential delays in fulfillment.
In light of the updated information, Nintendo advised customers to consider alternatives, such as “our participating retail partners.” However, the initial preorders, which commenced at midnight ET on Thursday with major retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, encountered various complications, leading to a less-than-ideal preorder experience.
Prior to the start of these preorders, the list of authorized retail partners provided by Nintendo included Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and GameStop. As of this moment, only GameStop has actively participated and is expected to commence its online preorders starting at 11 AM ET on Thursday, displaying their logo prominently on Nintendo’s webpage.
