New Beginnings: North Carolina Families Gifted New RVs Following Hurricane Helene
On Christmas Day, two families in North Carolina profoundly impacted by Hurricane Helene were presented with a remarkable gift: a new place to call home, courtesy of the non-profit organization EmergencyRV.
The first family, the Penleys from Boone, faced devastating losses during the hurricane. They had just welcomed their second child and were discharged from the hospital, planning to seek refuge in a homeless shelter. However, EmergencyRV stepped in to change their circumstances. “We weren’t gonna have that,” the organization stated in a video shared on social media, expressing their commitment to providing assistance.
The camper provided to the Penley family is designed to accommodate their needs, featuring a bedroom, multiple sleeping areas, a spacious bathroom, and a large kitchen with dining space. This new setup will surely offer comfort and stability during a challenging time.
Support for Veterans
The second recipient, Timothy McCord, is a 70-year-old Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. His living situation had become dire after Hurricane Helene tore the roof off his camper, leaving him with leaks and substantial damage. After his daughter reached out to EmergencyRV for help, the organization quickly arranged for a brand-new camper to be delivered to him in Canton, North Carolina.
Overjoyed and grateful, McCord expressed his appreciation upon the delivery of his new home, stating, “You helped me turn my life around and I appreciate it.”
EmergencyRV’s Mission
EmergencyRV, founded in 2018 by Woody Faircloth and his daughter, was created in response to the catastrophic Camp Fire in Paradise, California. Initially aiming to assist just one family affected by the fire, the organization has since grown, providing 77 RVs to those impacted by Hurricane Helene across the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee since the storm struck in September.
Beyond the immediate support, EmergencyRV has a waiting list of 700 families who have been meticulously vetted and are genuinely in need of assistance following natural disasters. Each RV is donated with a clean title in the recipient’s name, and the organization emphasizes the importance of ensuring a safe parking location for the RVs before delivery.
A Commitment to Community
While EmergencyRV prioritizes support for veterans and first responders, the organization actively assists families and individuals who have suffered from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Their dedication to helping others reflects a broader commitment to community resilience in the face of natural disasters.
Through their continued efforts, EmergencyRV not only provides shelter but also hope and healing for those rebuilding their lives.
