The eagerly anticipated trailer for Retro, featuring Suriya, has finally been unveiled. Generating significant buzz prior to its release, the new trailer has intensified interest among fans. Spanning nearly three minutes, the preview highlights Suriya’s character, donned in eye-catching outfits, as he embodies a local gangster grappling with his tumultuous past while trying to enjoy a life with his beloved, played by Pooja Hegde.

The captivating video begins with a band of thugs demanding Suriya to showcase his abilities, leading into introductions of central characters portrayed by Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Joju George, and others. Suriya’s character grapples with his violent tendencies, illustrated through intense scenes of frustration and conflict. He portrays a spectrum of emotions as he battles to extricate himself from a life of crime while indulging in moments of violence and substance use. A poignant line echoes through the trailer: “Our separated lives over the past years almost changed her into a Buddha, and me into a demon,” emphasizing the internal conflict that drives his character. Suriya’s compelling performance promises to resonate with viewers, underscoring his struggle against violent impulses.

Co-produced by Suriya and his wife Jyotika under their 2D Entertainment banner, Retro represents yet another collaboration between the couple. With direction by Karthik Subbaraj, the film is set for a major theatrical release on May 1.

In a recent conversation with Vikatan, Subbaraj shared insights into collaborating with Suriya, noting, “From the subtle movements of his eyes to his dialogue delivery and body language, Suriya sir exhibits a remarkable command over his craft. He is a true artist; his passion shines through even in the dubbing stages. He is dedicated to exploring fresh narratives, both as an actor and individually, and never takes his work for granted.”

Before Retro, Suriya made waves in Kanguva, taking on dual roles as a warrior and a bounty hunter named Francis alongside co-stars Disha Patani and Bobby Deol. Following Retro, audiences can look forward to Suriya’s next venture, Suriya 45, an action-packed film directed by RJ Balaji, featuring Trisha Krishnan in a leading role.
