Today, Nothing has officially introduced the Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta 1, specifically designed for the Phone 2a. This beta version allows users to explore the new features ahead of the full public release scheduled for December. Built on Android 15, this update showcases various enhancements including personalized home and lock screen options, upgraded widgets, camera improvements, and a range of additional functionalities. The company has indicated that similar updates for other models, such as the Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1, are expected later this year.

Exploring the Features of Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta 1

In a recent community update, Nothing unveiled that their OS 3.0 Open Beta 1 incorporates several features previewed in the previous month. A key feature in this update is an enhanced lock screen which now allows users to make edits through a simple long press. Additionally, the update introduces a variety of new clock designs, typefaces, and layouts.

A notable addition is the smart drawer functionality, driven by artificial intelligence (AI). This feature intelligently categorizes applications based on user activity, making it easier to navigate. Users have the option to pin their frequently used apps at the forefront of the app drawer.

Improvements to the camera have also been incorporated, notably a quicker HDR processing time and enhanced performance in low-light conditions. The camera widget has seen an increase in launch speed and offers a more visually intuitive zoom slider. Moreover, multitasking has been boosted with options for resizing and moving the pop-up view, which can now be affixed to the edge of the screen.

In a move to enhance user experience, the fingerprint animation has been updated to align with Nothing’s distinctive dot-matrix aesthetic. The update introduces an auto-archiving feature that purportedly assists in managing storage without deleting any apps or data. Additionally, users now have the capability to record partial screens instead of capturing full windows. Nothing has also rolled out version 3.0 of the setup wizard to streamline the installation process further.
