Ohio State Player Dismissed Ahead of Championship Game

Ohio State has showcased its formidable skills throughout the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. Following a significant victory over the top-seeded Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals, the Buckeyes triumphed against the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals, securing their place in the championship match scheduled for Monday. However, the journey will not include one notable team member whose rise to prominence has been largely attributed to his engaging social media presence.

Caden Davis, a former walk-on defensive end, has been officially dismissed from the Ohio State football program. This information was confirmed by Jerry Emig, the Sports Information Director. According to a report from The Lantern, the reasons for Davis’ dismissal have not been disclosed by university officials.

Davis, who has yet to record any tackles during his short tenure with the team, has gained substantial attention on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where he has drawn hundreds of thousands of followers.

Throughout his time at Ohio State, Davis frequently shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of life within the football program, offering followers insights into practices and the athletic facilities. Additionally, he documented his experiences as a student at the Columbus campus.

As of recent updates, at least one of Davis’ social media profiles still identified him as a member of the Ohio State football team, listing him as “#61.” This connection to the program remained notable despite the team’s recent decision.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Davis had suggested that he was traveling with the Buckeyes to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl semifinal against Texas. However, it was later clarified that the images he posted were actually from the previous season’s Cotton Bowl, where Ohio State faced Missouri.

Ohio State’s last national championship victory dates back to 2014, marking their first title in the College Football Playoff era. Meanwhile, Notre Dame secured their championship game berth by defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in the quarterfinals and subsequently overcoming Penn State in the semifinal. The highly anticipated championship game is set to occur at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on January 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
