Olivia Munn Attends Women’s Cancer Research Fund Fundraiser
Olivia Munn appeared on the pink carpet of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s “An Unforgettable Evening” fundraiser, showcasing her commitment to raising awareness for breast cancer.
In an interview with “Extra,” the actress, who has been candid about her personal health struggles following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023, expressed her emotional state at the event. Honored with the Courage Award, Munn wore a vintage Chloe cream dress that added elegance to the night.
Her diagnosis has led Munn to reassess her priorities. “The most important thing to me has been to be there for my children, and also to nurture myself while getting back into acting,” she shared.
Initially, Munn considered stepping back from her career. “I reached out to my representatives and said, ‘I don’t want to be in front of the camera anymore. I want to focus on behind-the-scenes work,’” she recounted.
Balancing motherhood with her professional commitments has been a significant focus for Munn. She reflected on juggling her new role as a mother to her baby girl while continuing her work on the show “Your Friends & Neighbors,” which she deeply cherishes. Munn expressed gratitude for being able to promote essential messages regarding breast cancer awareness and funding research, describing her emotions as a mix of gratitude and reflection.
Speaking about her support system, Munn emphasized her appreciation for the individuals who have rallied around her. “I’m lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life supporting and loving me. It’s heartwarming to connect with others who share similar experiences,” she noted.
Her husband, John Mulaney, and her close friends formed her initial support network, which she described as growing over time. “Every time someone reaches out to me to share their own story of cancer, it strengthens the bond of camaraderie among us,” she added.
Olivia shared a poignant quote that resonated with her experience: “Welcome to the worst club with the best members.” She acknowledged this sentiment, stating, “It’s a sweet sisterhood.”
Throughout her cancer journey and motherhood, Munn has gained a new appreciation for her body. Reflecting on the changes after having her son, she mentioned her initial struggles with self-image. “I used to compare myself to others on social media who seem to bounce back effortlessly after childbirth,” she admitted. However, she now recognizes the importance of her body in bringing her child into the world.
“I feel immense gratitude for my body, flaws and all,” she stated. “It’s been a journey, but I’ve learned to love my body for what it has done for me.” Munn confidently addressed the common misconception about feeling betrayed by one’s body during illness. “I never felt my body betrayed me; it’s the very entity that will guide me through this journey. My spirit, my soul, and my body are working in unison,” she concluded.
