Olivia Munn Shines at NYC Premiere of “Your Friends and Neighbors”
Olivia Munn made a stunning appearance on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of her new project, “Your Friends and Neighbors,” held on Tuesday evening.
In an interview with “Extra,” Munn expressed admiration for her husband, John Mulaney, who is managing their two children in Los Angeles while she is away for promotional activities.
Mulaney is balancing a busy schedule as he also works on his Netflix show, showcasing his impressive multitasking abilities. Munn shared a heartwarming moment, stating, “He just sent me a video of himself and my son Malcolm on set today, and it’s clear that Malcolm adores his dad. Their bond is truly special.”
She further praised Mulaney’s capabilities, saying, “He has the bandwidth to juggle it all! It’s incredible to see him perform a live weekly show for Netflix, take Malcolm to school, read scripts, develop new content, and still have the energy to unwind with a Korean drama with my mom. It’s almost unbelievable!”
When asked if Mulaney had seen “Your Friends & Neighbors” yet, Munn replied, “I don’t think he has. Between my press commitments and his work with the kids, we often just communicate through texts. It’s been tough to find time for a phone call, so I’m not sure if he’s had a chance to watch it.”
During her time at home, Munn enjoys having Malcolm watch his father’s show. “When it airs live on Wednesdays, I put it on for him. There are times I think he might not want to watch, but he insists, ‘No, no, no. I want to watch Daddy!’ He may not watch the visuals closely, but he loves hearing his dad’s voice.”
Munn also discussed her role as Sam Levitt in “Your Friends and Neighbors,” detailing what attracted her to the project. “Several factors drew me in. Firstly, it was such an honor to receive the call about this Apple TV show—Apple consistently produces quality content. Then, when I learned it was from Jonathan Tropper, whose work I admire, and that Jon Hamm was involved, I felt an immense thrill. They mentioned they had me in mind for a role that was still open, and I realized this opportunity was too good to pass up,” she explained. “I was captivated by the world and storyline—watching characters with immense wealth and power navigate their downfalls is compelling.”
Reflecting on her character’s arc, Munn revealed, “My character finds herself on the verge of losing everything, and Jon’s character is in a similar predicament. That tension and dynamic is fascinating to explore.”
Addressing the show’s intimate scenes, Munn admitted to being initially apprehensive about revealing her scars from cancer surgeries. “The relationship between my character and Jon Hamm’s is highly charged and sexual, foundational to their bond. I felt it was crucial to portray that authentically, without hiding behind anything,” she stated.
She continued, “While I was nervous about my scars from my double mastectomy and other procedures, I realized through discussions with Jonathan and Jon, as well as our intimacy coordinator, that my insecurities were more significant before my surgery.”
Munn expressed pride in her body for overcoming health challenges and highlighted the supportive atmosphere she felt working with Tropper and Hamm. “They are truly caring individuals, which made for a safe and understanding environment on set,” she said.
Although her scars are not visible in the series, they were featured in her SKIMS campaign, which she embraced as a way to inspire and support others. “I wanted to reach not just women with similar experiences but also their families. I’ve encountered children who now view their mothers’ scars with a new perspective. My insecurities about my scars have diminished, thanks to the positive feedback I’ve received,” Munn concluded. “Every day, I’m on a journey of healing, learning, and self-acceptance.”
