Plane Crash in New York Claims One Life
(Reuters) – A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when a small aircraft carrying six individuals crashed approximately 50 miles south of Albany, New York, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local law enforcement.
The aircraft, identified as a Mitsubishi MU-2B, crashed into a muddy field around 12:15 p.m. local time (1615 GMT) in Copake, New York, which is situated near the border with Massachusetts. The plane was reportedly en route to the Columbia County Airport, close to Hudson, New York, as noted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s office.
Details surrounding the crash remain sparse, and it has not been confirmed whether additional passengers sustained injuries or if there were further fatalities.
Local authorities indicated that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would release more comprehensive information regarding the incident in the coming days.
During a press conference, Columbia County Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore addressed reporters, revealing that adverse weather conditions and muddy terrain were obstructing rescue efforts. “It’s in the middle of a field and it’s pretty muddy, so accessibility is difficult,” Salvatore explained.
As the investigation continues, the cause of the crash remains undetermined, and authorities are concentrating on gathering further details.
