New Leaks Indicate Minor Updates in Upcoming One UI 8 for Samsung Devices
A recent leak has revealed a build of One UI 8 tailored for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, following previous reports concerning the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This latest version appears to offer only a few minor enhancements, suggesting a rebranding of One UI 7.1 rather than a substantial overhaul.
Though One UI 7 has only recently started rolling out to older Samsung flagship devices, leaks about One UI 8 have emerged rapidly. Earlier, images from an internal build showcased upcoming changes for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Now, insights into the incremental updates for One UI 8 have come to light.
Sammobile reports that the modifications transitioning from One UI 7 to One UI 8 are so minimal that Samsung appears to be relabeling One UI 7.1 as its successor. It seems that several of these features were already present in One UI 7 but were not activated at that time.
Among the updates, the Now Brief feature is expected to debut for older flagship models with One UI 8, despite the fact that the underlying functionality has existed in One UI 7. Additionally, while log video recording is being introduced in the camera app, this functionality had already made its debut in One UI 7, specifically for the Galaxy S25 series, and is currently accessible on the Galaxy S24 series with its One UI 7 update.
One notable enhancement includes modifications to the Quick Share feature, which will now present a dual-section menu: Receive and Send. When users switch to the Receive tab, their device will automatically become momentarily visible to others, ceasing visibility once the tab is exited. This streamlined approach offers a more user-friendly alternative to adjusting visibility settings manually.
Other miscellaneous updates encompass shaded icons in the Quick Settings panel—though this may be a bug—and encircled icons in certain menu buttons within the Gallery app.
The report notes the possibility of further new features being integrated into One UI 8. However, users should temper their expectations regarding substantial changes, as the timeline may not allow for significant enhancements. With the anticipated launches of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 featuring One UI 8 pre-installed, it is suggested that other existing devices might receive the update within a month or so. There is also speculation that Samsung may bypass a beta testing phase, indicating a lack of substantial modifications in this version.
