Ontario Premier Doug Ford has extended his congratulations to Liberal Leader Mark Carney following his anticipated electoral success.
“I want to congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory,” Ford stated on Tuesday morning. He also took a moment to appreciate Pierre Poilievre, Jagmeet Singh, and all candidates for their commitment to the democratic process.
The results of Monday’s election indicate that Carney’s Liberals are set to govern, though the specifics of whether they will have a minority or majority government remain uncertain, pending the counting of outstanding votes and close races in several ridings.
Elections Canada briefly paused vote counting but announced that operations would restart at 9:30 a.m. ET. In Ontario, which contains 122 of Canada’s 343 ridings, the election results showed a nearly even distribution between Liberal and Conservative wins, with neither the NDP nor the Green Party securing any ridings.
Ford noted that the federal election “comes at a crucial time for Ontario and for Canada,” expressing Ontario’s readiness to collaborate with the incoming federal government.
“Workers, families, and businesses are facing economic uncertainty exacerbated by President Trump’s tariffs, and they are relying on all levels of government to unite in safeguarding Canada,” he emphasized.
In his statement, Ford urged Carney to expedite the approval processes for vital mineral and resource development projects, particularly the Ring of Fire. He also called for support for major infrastructure initiatives, such as pipelines, highways, railways, seaports, and airports, aiming to reduce Ontario’s dependence on the U.S. Additionally, he mentioned the importance of bail reform among other priorities.
“As Premier of Ontario, I look forward to working with Prime Minister Carney to protect the workers, businesses, and communities of Ontario and Canada,” Ford concluded.
