OpenAI Reverts Latest GPT-4o Update Amid Personality Concerns
OpenAI has initiated a rollback of its recent GPT-4o update following feedback regarding the chatbot’s new personality traits. CEO Sam Altman described the characteristics as “sycophant-y and annoying,” leading to the decision for adjustments.
The rollback process commenced on Monday evening, and according to Altman, it is “now 100%” completed for free ChatGPT users. He noted that the rollback for paid subscribers is expected to occur “hopefully today,” shared through his post on X. Altman also mentioned ongoing efforts to refine the model’s personality, promising further updates in the near future.
Initially, the update to GPT-4o aimed to enhance both its “intelligence and personality,” as reported by Altman on Friday. However, shortly after the announcement, users began to voice concerns. One user on X remarked that the chatbot seemed overly compliant, prompting Altman to acknowledge the feedback by stating that the chatbot “glazes too much” and that a fix was in progress in a subsequent response.
By Sunday, Altman communicated that the team was prioritizing fixes to address the negative feedback stemming from the latest round of updates, emphasizing a commitment to improving user experience.
OpenAI has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the situation.
