Operation Mincemeat, a new musical, has been granted a four-week extension on Broadway, extending its initial run from 16 weeks to now being available for tickets until August 18, 2025.
Under the direction of Robert Hastie, Operation Mincemeat commenced its preview performances on February 15, with the opening night slated for March 20 at the Golden Theatre. Attendees can also view images and video capturing the musical’s marquee, which was illuminated in celebration of the production.
The inaugural preview was met with enthusiasm, drawing audiences from various locales and concluding with an impromptu performance of the show’s anthem, “Sail On, Boys,” at the stage door by passionate fans.
The cast features David Cumming, Claire-Marie Hall, Natasha Hodgson, Olivier Award-winner Jak Malone, and Zoë Roberts, all of whom are reprising their celebrated performances from the original production. The ensemble also includes understudies Brandon Contreras, Sam Hartley, Jessi Kirtley, Gerianne Pérez, and Amanda Jill Robinson.
Developed by the comedic group SpitLip, which consists of David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts, this exceptional musical represents a significant venture for these British creatives. After years of conducting sketch performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, their effort echoes the historical journey of the renowned quartet known as Beyond the Fringe that debuted at the same festival in 1960.
Set in 1943, Operation Mincemeat narrates a peculiar yet entertaining true story of a clever Allied Forces operation that played a decisive role during WWII, involving a stolen corpse.
Initially planned as an eight-week run, Operation Mincemeat in London has experienced twelve extensions and is now embarking on its third year of sold-out performances, with bookings open until June 7, 2025, and group sales extending to January 2026. The show continues to thrive through its ticket lottery and consistently draws significant crowds.
Beginning as a modest production with limited funding at London’s New Diorama Theatre, Operation Mincemeat quickly garnered a strong following, leading to sold-out performances at various venues before its West End debut on May 9, 2023, at the Fortune Theatre. The show has achieved remarkable acclaim, accumulating numerous five-star reviews and solidifying its status as a standout production in West End history.
Recognized for its artistic achievements, Operation Mincemeat received six nominations for the 2024 Olivier Awards, winning in key categories including Best New Musical and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The production also earned accolades at the WhatsOnStage Awards. Furthermore, it was previously awarded Off-West End honors for Best Musical Production and Best Company Ensemble, among others.
