Bering Straits Professional Services has secured a significant contract, potentially worth $149 million over five years, to provide extensive cybersecurity infrastructure and network operations support for the federal government’s primary agency for human resources.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is aiming to advance its information technology framework by increasingly integrating cloud technologies and adopting a zero trust security model.

The contract, referred to as the Enterprise Cyber, Infrastructure, and Network Operations Support Services (ECIOSS), was awarded on New Year’s Eve after OPM reviewed a total of 13 proposals, as indicated by records from the Federal Procurement Data System. ECIOSS will serve as the central hub for the agency’s cyber incident response, forensic investigations, and various network management tasks.

This initiative is intended to streamline support for operations, covering critical areas such as server and endpoint updates, router management, domain name management, and coordination of incident response efforts.

Documentations released in June detail OPM’s request for unified cyber and network services, a strategic move aimed at fostering a cohesive operational framework. Previously, these services were divided between two contracts held by Bering Global Solutions LLC and KaiYuh Information Technologies. The new ECIOSS contract continues the agency’s commitment to reserving such contracts for 8(a) small businesses, which are typically disadvantaged firms.

Bering Straits Professional Services is tasked with enhancing OPM’s capabilities in incident management, network monitoring, fault tracking, and documentation. This work will be conducted in an agile setting, ensuring that OPM can respond effectively to emerging challenges in cybersecurity.

Notably, Bering Straits Professional Services is a company owned by the Bering Straits Native Corporation, highlighting its roots in the Alaska Native community.
