Oppo Introduces Find X8 Ultra: A New Contender in Camera Phones
Oppo has unveiled the Find X8 Ultra, the latest model in the heated rivalry among smartphone manufacturers Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo, all vying for the title of the leading camera phone. However, unlike its competitors, Oppo embraces a design philosophy suggesting that larger is not always synonymous with better.
To clarify, the Find X8 Ultra is not a compact device, featuring a 6.82-inch display and weighing 7.97 ounces. Yet, at a thickness of 8.78mm, it stands out as slimmer compared to its main rivals: the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra. While a new X200 Ultra is on the horizon, initial teasers indicate that it too may not break the trend of bulkiness.
This model represents a growing segment of Chinese smartphones that have become notably oversized, equipped with extensive batteries and distinctive circular camera setups designed to house numerous lenses and sensors. In contrast to this trend, Oppo is aiming to establish a standard for more manageable phone dimensions without sacrificing camera quality. Product specialist Jeff Jiang elaborated on this, highlighting the intent to create a “relatively normal phone.”
The Find X8 Ultra features an impressive camera setup with four 50-megapixel lenses, finely tuned with Hasselblad’s expertise. This includes advanced 3x and 6x periscopes with faster apertures, positioning the X8 Ultra as a formidable competitor in photography against Xiaomi and Vivo. Additionally, it introduces a dedicated haptic shutter button that enhances the photography experience, providing touch controls for zooming, alongside a new customizable shortcut button that replaces the traditional alert slider.
Despite its sleek profile, the X8 Ultra houses a substantial 6,100mAh battery, surpassing the capacity of its competitors and supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities. It operates on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Notably, like many flagship devices released this year, the Find X8 Ultra also features both IP68 and IP69 certifications, ensuring robust protection against dust and water.
Alongside the Find X8 Ultra, Oppo also launched the Find X8s and X8s Plus, which are updates to the previous Find X8 model and are powered by the newly announced MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus. The X8s model offers a more compact 6.3-inch display, while the X8s Plus features a larger 6.59-inch screen and a 6,000mAh battery. However, it is worth noting that Oppo has no plans for releasing any of these new Find X8 devices outside of China.
