The recently launched Broadway adaptation of Othello, featuring prominent actors Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, is collaborating with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as well as the New York City Department of Education. This initiative aims to provide an unforgettable experience for 2,000 students from New York and New Jersey, who will have the chance to attend a performance at the Barrymore Theatre, where the show is currently being staged for a limited run.
“For a significant number of these young people, this marks their first encounter with Broadway, and witnessing the performances of Denzel Washington (a National Spokesperson) and Jake Gyllenhaal will undoubtedly add to the significance of the occasion,” remarked Frank Sanchez, National Vice President of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He emphasized that opportunities like this inspire Club teens to aspire to great heights and affirm that they can achieve their dreams. He expressed gratitude toward the Production Team, the actors, and particularly Denzel and Jake, for facilitating such a transformative experience.
Directed by Tony Award-winning Kenny Leon, Othello officially premiered on Sunday at the Barrymore Theatre and will continue to run until June 8. Reviews of the production can be found linked HERE.
In this classic tale, Iago, who has been overlooked for a promotion, embarks on a relentless mission of revenge that ensnares Othello and his spouse Desdemona, played by Molly Osborne, into a disturbing narrative of treachery and deceit.
