Montreal authorities are investigating a significant theft involving over $1 million worth of olive oil, which was reported missing after failing to reach an Ontario destination.

According to the police, a company named Transport Q-Trans was responsible for delivering more than 100 pallets of olive oil. Unfortunately, the intended recipient did not receive the shipment earlier this week, prompting a police inquiry.

The situation unfolded as Transport Q-Trans sub-contracted the delivery to another Montreal-based transportation company, which was equipped with specialized heated trailers necessary for preserving the olive oil’s quality. This transfer was aimed at ensuring the oil would be delivered safely and in prime condition.

Transport Q-Trans filed a report regarding the missing shipment on Wednesday. Following this, the police have turned their focus to the second company involved in the delivery, amid suspicions that they may have been complicit in the theft.

Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant indicated that investigators are currently examining surveillance footage in hopes of uncovering leads related to the disappearance of the shipment. However, as of now, no arrests have been made and the oil has yet to be recovered.

The investigation remains active as authorities seek to gather more evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding this large-scale theft.

Related Developments

This event marks a troubling trend in cargo thefts across the region, raising questions about security measures within transportation companies. Observers are keenly watching how this case unfolds and whether it will prompt any industry-wide changes to prevent future incidents.

The situation serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities within supply chains, potentially influencing both operational practices and consumer trust in the products being delivered.
