A significant exploit has surfaced in Overwatch 2, enabling players to exit matches without suffering penalties or losing their skill rating (SR).
In the standard gameplay environment, leaving a match prematurely typically results in a loss of SR and a temporary suspension from further matches, preventing frustration-driven exits when the game does not unfold favorably.
However, this new exploit alters the landscape significantly. Currently, in Overwatch 2’s limited-time 6v6 competitive mode, players appear to be able to log out of games without facing any adverse consequences.
Exploit Allows Players to Exit Matches Without Consequences
Evidence provided by Overwatch 2 player Mason ‘durpee’ Kuehne illustrates that users are able to disconnect from a match in the 6v6 mode without any SR deductions. In a notable incident captured during a Twitch stream of professional player Kyle ‘Rakattack’ Rakauskas, Kuehne demonstrated the exploit by logging off just seconds before a potential defeat.
In his observations, Kuehne remarked on his successful execution of the exploit, stating that he was able to log off with no penalties, even joking about the situation’s implications on game integrity.
He expressed his intent to share the information not to withhold it from others, acknowledging that increased awareness could prompt Blizzard to seek a rapid patch for the flaw.
As the exploit garners attention, players are voicing concerns about the potential for inflated skill ratings among those exploiting the loophole. One player alluded to a noticeable rise in the number of match leavers, suggesting a possible correlation.
At this juncture, it remains unclear if Blizzard is aware of the exploit or if steps are being taken to address the issue. However, the implications of such exploits on the competitive environment of Overwatch 2 are significant, highlighting the need for timely interventions to preserve game integrity.
