Two prominent players in the defense technology sector, Palantir and Anduril, are currently in discussions with various tech companies, including SpaceX, OpenAI, Saronic, and Scale AI, to form a consortium aimed at bidding for contracts with the Pentagon. This information comes from a report in the Financial Times.
The consortium aims to disrupt the current landscape dominated by major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Boeing. According to an anonymous source participating in the discussions, this initiative seeks to create a new breed of defense contractors. Another participant noted that this coalition could facilitate a more effective process for delivering advanced weapons and technology to the government.
The announcement of initial partnerships might come as early as January, as suggested by the report.
Earlier this month, both Palantir and Anduril signaled that such a collaboration was on the horizon, following the announcement of an integration between Palantir’s AI Platform and Anduril’s Lattice software. They asserted their commitment to “launching a new consortium to ensure that the U.S. government leads the world in artificial intelligence.”
