Panasonic Unveils Silky Fine Mist Sprays for Air Dispersion

Imagine witnessing a fish glide effortlessly through suspended droplets of water. This captivating visual is now within reach, thanks to Panasonic’s innovation in outdoor air conditioning technology.

Dubbed “Silky Fine Mist,” Panasonic markets this system primarily as a cooling solution. According to the company, its unique nozzles utilize a blend of pressurized water and compressed air to emit a mist with an incredibly fine particle size ranging from six to ten microns. This mist is so delicate that it does not leave a lingering dampness on skin or surfaces. Since its launch in 2019, Panasonic reports widespread adoption of this technology across train stations and public amenities throughout Japan.

However, inspired by the principles seen in projection mapping — similar to those utilized by Disney and event technologists for decades — Panasonic recognized the potential for artistic applications. The company has been exploring this creative avenue since 2018, testing how its mist technology can enhance art installations. More recently, this technology has been showcased at various tech expos, where a discreet mist dispenser combined with a projector dazzled audiences as a form of digital signage.

It’s worth noting, however, that this technology does come with limitations regarding portability. For instance, the sprayer model available in North America measures three feet in both height and width, weighs approximately 420 pounds, and requires substantial energy consumption of 2.4 kilowatts.

For those interested in understanding the mechanics behind this innovative system, Panasonic has released a video that demonstrates its functionality:
