Despite his political affiliations, Paresh Rawal says he respects and welcomes criticism from peers like Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan.
Paresh Rawal has expressed his openness to receiving criticism regarding the government from fellow actors Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan, asserting that their intentions are sincere and without hidden motives.
Even as a former Member of Parliament representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the seasoned actor Paresh Rawal emphasizes that he values the perspectives of his colleagues in the film industry. He holds that luminaries such as Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan share their viewpoints with the intent of contributing positively, thereby meriting thoughtful consideration.
In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Rawal remarked, “If Naseer bhai, Aamir, or Shah Rukh have something to say, I can’t dismiss that. Their input is for my benefit. I’ll listen, reflect, and strive to improve. I respect them, and they care for me as well.”
Rawal lauded Naseeruddin Shah, describing him as one of the few individuals in the Hindi film sphere who consistently speaks his mind. “Being in the company of such individuals brings a sense of safety and assurance,” he noted.
The friendship between Rawal and Shah transcends political differences. Last year, Naseer’s wife, acclaimed actress Ratna Pathak Shah, highlighted the importance of maintaining personal relationships despite differing political views. “We belong to an era where political beliefs didn’t disrupt personal ties. This recent trend of division is disheartening. While I’m here, I’ll not allow that to happen,” she commented. Ratna and Rawal have collaborated in films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Hum Do Hamare Do.
Naseeruddin Shah has frequently voiced his concerns about issues under the BJP-led administration, particularly regarding the increasing marginalization of Muslims. Despite their differing perspectives, Rawal has shown sustained admiration for Naseer, having directed him in the play The Sleuth. In reciprocation, Naseer cast Rawal in his 2006 directorial debut, Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota. The two iconic figures have also appeared together in Mahesh Bhatt’s classic film, Sir, from 1993.
Additionally, Aamir Khan, who is highly regarded by Rawal, stirred public discourse in 2015 when he expressed concerns regarding growing intolerance in India and fears for his son Azad’s future. Rawal and Aamir have a long-standing professional relationship, having worked together in films like Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), a collaboration that continues to flourish.
