Patricia Arquette, known for her compelling performances in crime dramas like “The Act” and “Escape at Dannemora,” is set to delve into another intense narrative with a new miniseries for Hulu.
On Friday, Hulu announced a limited series order for an “untitled Murdaugh murders” project. This upcoming show is inspired by the shocking family saga of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh. It draws from extensive reporting by Mandy Matney, a journalist who created the well-known “Murdaugh Murders Podcast,” and includes unique insights gained from her years of investigation into the case.
The Murdaugh story took a tragic turn in June 2021 when Maggie and her 22-year-old son Paul were found dead on their family’s estate in South Carolina. A disturbing revelation followed when Alex Murdaugh, who reported the deaths, was ultimately convicted of their murders. Further investigations have linked additional deaths to the Murdaugh family, adding layers to an already complex case.
This case has been previously explored in Netflix’s “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal,” along with various other documentaries and news segments.
The limited series will be co-created and run by Michael D. Fuller, who has a strong background in drama with titles such as “Quarry” and “Rectify.” Erin Lee Carr, known for her engaging work in documentaries like “Britney vs. Spears,” will join him as co-creator. Executive producers Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund, recognized for their work on “A Friend of the Family” and “Candy,” will also support the project through Eat the Cat. Notably, Mandy Matney will be involved as an executive producer alongside Universal Content Productions.
This collaborative creative team has a history of success, having previously worked together on “The Act,” which earned Arquette an Emmy Award for her Outstanding Supporting Actress role.
The news was first reported by Variety.
