Patrick Mahomes Suffers Ankle Injury in Chiefs’ Victory Over Browns
The Kansas City Chiefs experienced a troubling moment during their recent 21-7 victory against the Cleveland Browns as star quarterback Patrick Mahomes sustained an ankle injury. The incident occurred midway through the fourth quarter when Mahomes was tackled by multiple defenders, leaving him limping off the field with assistance while Carson Wentz stepped in to complete the game.
Reflecting on the injury, Mahomes expressed, “I was trying to make a play happen. As I threw the ball I got hit, and I felt like someone hit me from behind as well, so I got rolled up on.” He acknowledged the physical nature of football, stating, “It kind of happens in football. I’ll go through the rehab process to be ready for next week.” He noted that he felt capable of finishing the game under different circumstances but opted for caution, allowing Wentz, a seasoned player, to take over.
As reports emerged post-game, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared that X-rays on Mahomes’ ankle were negative. According to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, “Patrick’s right ankle has been hurt. It’s not broken, but it’s sore.” Reid confirmed that Mahomes would begin rehabilitation, emphasizing the need to monitor his progress in the coming days.
During the match, Mahomes completed 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards, contributing two touchdown throws to teammates Noah Gray and JuJu Smith-Schuster. The Chiefs, now boasting a record of 13-1, are set to face the Houston Texans in their next home game at Arrowhead Stadium before traveling to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers on Christmas Day.
