Paul Rudd and Jack Black Team Up for ‘Anaconda’ Remake
In an exciting development for fans of both actors, a remake of the 1997 adventure film “Anaconda” is reportedly in the works, with Paul Rudd set to star alongside Jack Black. According to a report from Deadline, Rudd, who is nominated for an Emmy for his role in “Only Murders in the Building” and has received a second nod for narration, is in discussions with Sony Pictures to bring this project to life.
The screenplay for the remake will be crafted by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten, known for their work on the meta-comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” as well as the recent addition to the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise. Gormican is also set to direct the film.
Jack Black, fresh off a newsworthy moment involving his partnership with Kyle Gass, is anticipated to bring his distinctive comedic flair to the project. As Black’s career has included memorable roles in films like “Kung Fu Panda,” he is no stranger to creature features and high-stakes adventure.
The original “Anaconda,” which featured a star-studded cast including Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, and Eric Stoltz, followed a documentary crew in the Amazon as they sought out a legendary green anaconda. While it was critiqued for its over-the-top elements, the film surprisingly became a box office hit and carved out a niche in home video markets, especially noted for its memorable scenes, including Voight’s character meeting a gruesome fate.
This remake could provide Rudd with a refreshing pivot, following his extensive involvement in franchises like “Ghostbusters” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The opportunity to tackle a creature thriller alongside a comedic peer like Black presents an intriguing prospect for both actors.
Given Black’s previous experience in a Peter Jackson film such as “King Kong,” which achieved significant acclaim, there’s potential for a distinct and entertaining take on the “Anaconda” legacy. While the direction of this new interpretation remains to be seen, it certainly offers a tantalizing prospect for audiences eager for a mix of humor and adventure.
