Paul Rudd Emphasizes Kindness as a Core Value

Paul Rudd believes that embracing kindness and consideration should be the norm for everyone. In a recent interview featured in WSJ. Magazine, the 55-year-old actor discussed the importance of being kind within the entertainment industry, stating, “It’s good for your soul.” Rudd follows the simple principle of treating others as he would like to be treated.

Referring to his perspective on niceness, Rudd candidly said, “You’re asking me about this whole ‘nice’ thing. I don’t think I’m particularly nice. Just try and be polite. Try and respect other people’s time. Show up on time. Don’t be a d—head, and then that’s it.”

In a previous interview with The Guardian, Rudd elaborated on his inclination towards kindness. He reflected on his upbringing in the Midwest, suggesting that it instills a unique sensibility. “If I’m feeling insecure, the smiles and politeness get upped a notch, and maybe that isn’t totally reflective of how I’m feeling on the inside,” he explained. “But better to be thought of as a nice person than a d—head.”

Rudd’s reputation for being amiable has also earned him accolades beyond his on-screen performances. He was awarded the title of Sexiest Man Alive by PEOPLE in 2021, a recognition he received with a mix of surprise and humility. At the time, he acknowledged that many others deserved the honor before him, stating, “I have an awareness enough to know that when people hear that I’d be picked for this, they would say, ‘What?’ This is not false humility.”

Despite his many achievements in film and television, Rudd prioritizes his role as a family man. He has been happily married to his wife, Julie, for 22 years and cherishes his moments with their two children. “When I think about myself, I think of myself as a husband and a father,” he shared. “I just hang out with my family when I’m not working. That’s what I kind of like the most.”
