Celebrating Broadway’s Leading Ladies: A Special One-Night Performance
PBS is set to host an exceptional evening titled Broadway’s Leading Ladies, in collaboration with No Guarantees and Nouveau Productions. This unique concert will showcase an all-star lineup of women who have significantly impacted Broadway, breathing life into the stage as we know it. Scheduled for Monday, March 10, the one-night-only event will take place at Town Hall in New York City, following PBS’s successful Broadway’s Leading Men concert held in 2024.
The performance will feature an impressive roster of seasoned Broadway icons alongside emerging talent, creating a vibrant homage to both past and future contributors to this beloved art form. Following the live event, Broadway’s Leading Ladies will be broadcast nationally on PBS in 2025, with the exact date yet to be announced. For updates about ticket availability, visit here.
The evening will be complemented by the musical prowess of the American Pops Orchestra, conducted by Luke Frazier, who has previously worked on PBS projects including Wicked in Concert and Broadway’s Leading Men. The American Pops Orchestra has also made a mark with their last performance at Town Hall, a tribute to the legendary Edith Piaf that received critical acclaim.
Jerry Liwanag, Vice President of Fundraising Strategy & Programming at PBS, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “PBS is delighted to partner on such an extraordinary and important evening, celebrating the best of Broadway’s leading ladies. We aim to highlight the significance of musical theater, an art form that is distinctly American.”
Christine Schwarzmann, President of No Guarantees, commented on the legacy of women in theater, saying, “Broadway’s Leading Ladies is a celebration of the profound influence and enduring legacy women have made in theater. The Broadway leading lady is a timeless and cherished tradition, from the legendary Ethel Merman to the remarkable talents gracing the stage today. We are honored to partner with PBS and Nouveau Productions to honor this rich history at New York’s iconic Town Hall.”
Moreover, a portion of the ticket sales will support the Women’s Health Initiative through the Entertainment Community Fund, an organization that holds special significance as it was founded by Phyllis Newman, a cancer survivor and board member.
