The Progressive Conservative Party is stepping up its political engagement by fielding a seasoned candidate for the forthcoming byelection in Transcona.
Shawn Nason, a former city councillor for Winnipeg, has been selected to represent the PCs in the byelection set for March 18. Nason held the position of city councillor for Transcona from 2018 to 2022, providing him with valuable local governance experience.

Nason’s commitment to community service extends beyond his role in city council; he has held positions on the boards of several local organizations, including the Transcona Historical Museum, the Rotary Club of Winnipeg East, Oxford Heights Community Club, and FC Northwest Soccer Club. Through these experiences, he has cultivated a comprehensive understanding of the specific needs of the Transcona community.
“My years of community involvement have given me a deep understanding of Transcona’s unique needs,” Nason remarked in a statement. “What’s inspired me most is seeing how everyone’s contribution, big or small, has made a meaningful impact to strengthen the community we call home.”
The New Democratic Party (NDP) has already announced its candidate, educator Shannon Corbett, who seeks to fill the vacancy created by the passing of former MLA Nello Altomare, who succumbed to cancer last month.
This byelection is poised to be a significant political event, as candidates from both major parties vie for the support of Transcona residents.
