Pedro Pascal and Nicola Coughlan Condemn JK Rowling’s Anti-LGBTQ Stance
Pedro Pascal has publicly criticized JK Rowling for her support of anti-LGBTQ legislation in the UK. The actor, known for his role in “The Last of Us,” reacted to a video shared on Instagram by Tariq Ra’ouf, highlighting the harmful implications of Rowling’s statements. He described her position as “heinous LOSER behavior,” reflecting a growing concern among many regarding her influence on public perception of transgender rights.
On April 17, Rowling reaffirmed her controversial views, supporting a U.K. Supreme Court decision asserting that the terms “women” and “sex” in the Equality Act should exclusively refer to biological women. Her comments ignited further backlash on social media.
In a post on X, Rowling declared, “I love it when a plan comes together,” alongside hashtags like #SupremeCourt and #WomensRights, accompanied by an image of herself smoking a cigar. This reference to the A-Team character John “Hannibal” Smith invoked imagery of a cunning strategist but has been met with criticism for its insensitivity.
Ra’ouf characterized Rowling’s support for the legislation as “some serious Voldemort villain s–t,” condemning her for fostering division against an already marginalized community. He expressed concern that her actions stoke fear and animosity towards a demographic that faces considerable misunderstanding and challenges.
Pascal echoed Ra’ouf’s sentiments, describing Rowling’s behavior as “awful disgusting s–t” and reiterating his view on the matter. This alignment emphasizes the broader conversation about the treatment of the transgender community, which Pascal has consistently supported. In a previous statement from February 2025, he emphasized the disgracefulness of targeting the vulnerable, expressing that such actions are among the most despicable.
Continuing his advocacy, Pascal recently attended the U.K. premiere of “Thunderbolts” wearing a shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Protect the Dolls.” His support for the transgender community is also personal; his sister, Lux, came out as a transgender woman in February 2021, reinforcing his commitment to amplifying LGBTQ voices.
In the wake of these developments, “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan also took a stand against Rowling. On Sunday, she shared an article from The Cut via her Instagram Story that criticized Rowling’s remarks regarding the Supreme Court ruling. Coughlan added her own dismissal of any future Harry Potter projects, stating, “Keep your new ‘Harry Potter’ lads. Wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.”
The responses from Pascal and Coughlan contribute to a larger discourse on the responsibilities of public figures in shaping societal attitudes towards marginalized communities. Their statements reflect a collective movement advocating for transgender rights and a rejection of narratives that perpetuate discrimination.
