Memories of Michelle Trachtenberg: A Tribute by Penn Badgley
Penn Badgley, who starred alongside Michelle Trachtenberg in the iconic series Gossip Girl, reflected on their connection over a decade after they last met, particularly following her recent passing in February.
“What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh,” Badgley shared in a discussion with E! News. “She was really joyous. While we all have our ups and downs, she had this childlike, joyous laugh and a truly pure heart.”
Trachtenberg was known for her role as the cunning Georgina Sparks on The CW’s Gossip Girl, spanning over two dozen episodes, and even revisiting the character in two episodes of the reboot, marking her final appearance in acting.
Badgley conveyed his sentiments regarding her sudden passing, stating, “It’s surreal. I can’t claim to have known her well, but it’s really surreal and saddening.”
Michelle Trachtenberg passed away at 39 on February 26 in New York City. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that her cause of death was complications from diabetes mellitus, determining it as natural causes, according to People.
In the wake of her death, many former co-stars took to social media to honor her memory. Blake Lively, another Gossip Girl alum, described her presence as “electric.” She noted, “You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar echoed sentiment from the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where Trachtenberg portrayed Dawn Summers, her character’s younger sister. Gellar posted, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.”
Additionally, Buffy actor James Marsters expressed his sorrow, stating, “My heart is heavy today. We have lost a beautiful soul. Michelle was fiercely intelligent, howlingly funny, and a very talented person. She died much too young, leaving behind many who loved her.”
