Pentagon Media Policy Shift Excludes Major Outlets
Recent months have seen a pronounced alignment from major news organizations such as The Washington Post and CNN towards Donald Trump. Ironically, they and several other mainstream media outlets now find themselves on the outskirts of the Pentagon’s latest media rotation initiative, which appears to favor right-wing, pro-Trump news sources.
CNN’s Oliver Darcy reported that the Pentagon has notified The Washington Post, CNN, The Hill, and The War Zone about the impending loss of their office spaces at the Pentagon facility. This decision comes as part of a new “media rotation program” unveiled by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth just a week prior.
Included in the list of outlets affected by this decision are notable names such as NBC News, The Hill, the New York Times, National Public Radio, and Politico.
In contrast, the media outlets that will be welcomed into this new rotation comprise notably pro-Trump entities like One America News Network, The New York Post, the Washington Examiner, Breitbart News, and Daily Caller. The lineup also features the conservative outlet Free Press, which presents itself under the guise of promoting ‘free speech,’ along with the Huffington Post, often viewed as a more left-leaning platform.
Interestingly, Fox News, where Secretary Hegseth has had a lengthy association, remains unaffected by this shuffle and retains its office space at the Pentagon.
Although the impacted outlets will not lose their press credentials outright, losing their offices means sacrificing immediate access to essential resources such as computers and cameras, which are critical for timely reporting. Several observers have remarked that these outlets frequently find themselves targeted by Trump in his public statements.
The implementation of these changes is expected to occur later in February, although the exact date remains undisclosed.
