Perplexity Launches New Deep Research Tool
Perplexity has unveiled its latest tool, Deep Research, designed to perform comprehensive research and analysis. According to a blog post published on Friday, this feature allows users to generate detailed reports based on their inquiries. Initially, the tool is available for free, with usage restricted to five queries per day for non-subscribers and up to 500 for Pro users. This announcement follows similar introductions by other tech giants, including OpenAI and Google, who have also rolled out deep research functionalities recently.
Functionality and Accessibility
Currently, Deep Research is only accessible via the web, although plans are in place to expand its availability to iOS, Android, and Mac applications in the near future. The new tool promises to streamline the research process, allowing users to obtain in-depth reports on a variety of topics.
Performance Insights
Deep Research is designed to excel across multiple fields such as finance, marketing, and product research. The process takes approximately 2 to 4 minutes, during which the tool conducts extensive searches, analyzes numerous sources, and synthesizes the information retrieved. Once generated, the reports can easily be shared or exported as PDFs, providing a valuable resource for detailed analyses.
Comparative Analysis with Competitors
Perplexity asserts that their Deep Research tool offers superior performance compared to competitors like OpenAI’s o3-mini and o1, as well as DeepSeek-R1. Notably, it achieved a score of 21.1% on the “Humanity’s Last Exam” benchmark, although this figure is lower than the performance of OpenAI’s Deep Research feature.
The introduction of Deep Research represents a significant advancement in research technology, making in-depth analysis more accessible than ever before.
