Buttigieg Responds to Trump’s Criticism Following Aviation Tragedy

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has hit back at President Donald Trump after the president made disparaging remarks about him during a recent press briefing. This exchange took place in the aftermath of a tragic midair collision between a military helicopter and a commercial airplane that claimed several lives.

During the briefing, Trump mockingly referred to Buttigieg as “a real winner” and stated, “He’s a disaster. He was a disaster as a mayor. He ran his city into the ground. And he’s a disaster now. He’s just got a good line of bulls—.”

Buttigieg’s Response

Buttigieg, who previously served as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and held the Transportation Department portfolio under President Joe Biden, did not take the comments lightly. He responded via social media, expressing his dismay at Trump’s handling of the situation.

“Despicable. As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch,” Buttigieg stated in a post on X.

He further criticized Trump for his record during his presidency, particularly focusing on aviation safety measures. “President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again,” he added.

Political Aspirations

Buttigieg’s response comes as speculation mounts regarding his potential political future. After initially running for president in 2019 and subsequently endorsing Biden in 2020, reports suggest that he is considering a bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, a state that Trump previously won.

A source close to Buttigieg shared with Fox News Digital, “Pete is exploring all of his options on how he can be helpful and continue to serve. He’s honored to be mentioned for this, and he’s taking a serious look.”

This ongoing political narrative underscores the challenges and dynamics within the Democratic Party as they prepare for future elections, with Buttigieg emerging as a notable figure amidst the discussions of party leadership and strategy.
