PFA Announces Young Player of the Year Nominees
Chelsea’s Lauren James and Manchester City’s Khiara Keating are among the six contenders for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Women’s Young Player of the Year award. This recognition highlights the outstanding performances of young talent in women’s football over the past season.
Lauren James, who secured the accolade last year, continues to impress on the pitch. She scored an impressive 13 goals in just 16 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s triumph in the Women’s Super League. Her skill and contribution to the team’s success have earned her another nomination this year.
Khiara Keating, at just 20 years old, had a remarkable season as the goalkeeper for Manchester City. She clinched the Golden Glove for her exceptional performances, which included nine clean sheets and the fewest goals conceded throughout the league, demonstrating her crucial role in the team’s defensive strengths.
The nominees list also features James’ Chelsea teammate, Agnes Beever-Jones, who made waves in her inaugural season by scoring 11 goals. She has showcased her potential as a rising star in women’s football.
Additionally, Maya le Tissier, a defender for Manchester United, has been lauded for her consistent performances, being a mainstay in the league and contributing to United’s clean sheets, notably in their commanding 4-0 victory against Tottenham in the FA Cup final.
Jess Park from Manchester City also made a significant impact during the season, especially during the intense title race against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Grace Clinton, who was on loan at Tottenham, registered four goals and four assists, further proving her value on the field while away from Manchester United.
The winner of the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year award will be revealed on Tuesday, August 20, marking an exciting moment for the nominees and the continued growth of women’s football.
