As the robotics sector continues to expand, companies are striving to blend technological innovation with robust business practices. One such company, PickNik Inc., known for its software solutions aimed at automating intricate tasks, announced an important leadership change today. Founder Dave Coleman is transitioning to the role of chief product officer, while Dave Grant ascends from chief revenue officer to the position of CEO.
In a statement, the Boulder, Colorado-based firm highlighted this leadership shift as a pivotal moment in its evolution as a frontrunner in developing robotic arm technologies.
PickNik’s leading offering, MoveIt Pro, serves as an AI-driven platform that facilitates the swift development of commercial robotic applications adapted for unpredictable and challenging environments.
Grant Leverages Experience to Propel Commercialization
Grant remarked on the transition, expressing optimism about its implications for clients, the dedicated team, and the organization’s trajectory. “I am honored to take on the role of CEO and look forward to collaborating with Dave Coleman and the entire PickNik team to continue our mission of delivering cutting-edge robotic solutions,” he stated.
Grant joined PickNik in the fall of 2023, contributing valuable experience from previous roles, including a chief revenue officer position at Uplight, a company that reached ‘unicorn’ status, and at Smartabase, which was sold at a considerable premium over its Series A valuation.
Within his new role, Grant will continue to drive the commercialization of MoveIt Pro, steering the company towards a focus on software solutions, as indicated by fellow company representatives. “He is already familiar with our team and has significantly influenced our profitability and sales strategies,” noted a spokesperson for PickNik. “This leadership change capitalizes on both individuals’ strengths, with Grant’s SaaS experience poised to enhance our approach to product development.”
The spokesperson also highlighted that Coleman will focus more on technical aspects, allowing him to engage more in discussions and presentations while ensuring that team dynamics remain positive. “We’re pleased that this transition is constructive, with no one forced out,” she added.
Coleman Continues His Technical Contributions
Having served as CEO for the past nine years, Coleman has played a crucial role in advancing robotic manipulation technologies for a diverse range of clients, including NASA and the U.S. Space Force, among others.
His extensive background includes notable roles at Google Robotics, Open Robotics, and Willow Garage, and he is recognized for his expertise in autonomous motion control and advocacy for interoperability in robotic systems.
“I am thrilled to step into the chief product officer role, focusing on my passion for addressing robotics challenges and enhancing product development,” Coleman expressed. He expressed confidence in Grant’s leadership to guide PickNik through its next phase of growth.
Coleman is also set to share insights from his consultancy work with over 100 robotics firms and discuss common pitfalls in the industry at RoboBusiness 2024. Furthermore, PickNik Robotics will showcase its offerings at Booth 622 during the event, scheduled for October 16-17 in Santa Clara, California.
