Roundabout Theatre Company has announced an extension of the wildly entertaining Pirates! The Penzance Musical, which will now run for four additional weeks. This production, influenced by the vibrant musical styles of New Orleans, presents a fresh jazz-inspired twist on the beloved classic. Its score, crafted by Arthur Sullivan, features a libretto by W.S. Gilbert, with adaptations orchestrated by Rupert Holmes. The musical direction is led by Joseph Joubert, alongside choreography from Warren Carlyle and direction by Scott Ellis.

Starring in Pirates! The Penzance Musical are Ramin Karimloo in the role of Pirate King, Jinkx Monsoon as Ruth, and David Hyde Pierce portraying Gilbert/Major General Stanley. Other notable cast members include Nicholas Barasch (Frederic), Preston Truman Boyd (Sullivan/Police Sergeant), and Samantha Williams (Mabel Stanley), along with a diverse ensemble that features talents such as Kelly Belarmino, Maria Briggs, and Tatiana Lofton, among others.

The production’s design team boasts impressive credentials, with Tony Award-winning scene design by David Rockwell (known for works like She Loves Me and Doubt) and costume design by Linda Cho (The Great Gatsby, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder). The visual experience is enhanced by Charles G. LaPointe’s hair and wig design, along with lighting design by Tony Award-winner Donald Holder (South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The Lion King). The soundscape is shaped by Tony Award-nominee Mikaal Sulaiman (Macbeth, An Enemy of the People) and dance arrangements contributed by John O’Neill (Harmony). The casting is expertly executed by Jim Carnahan CSA & Jason Thinger CSA.

Pirates! The Penzance Musical is scheduled to begin previews on April 4, 2025, with its official opening on April 24, 2025. The show is set as a limited engagement, now extended until July 27, 2025, at the Todd Haimes Theatre.
