Last night, the Todd Haimes Theatre buzzed with excitement as the Roundabout Theatre Company held the opening night for its innovative, jazz-inspired adaptation of the Broadway classic, Pirates! The Penzance Musical. BroadwayWorld captured the glamour of the evening with a red carpet arrival gallery, highlighting notable attendees and the vibrant atmosphere surrounding this new musical venture.
Among the special guests gracing the event were renowned figures like Jim Parsons, Victor Garber, Debra Monk, Patricia Clarkson, Tovah Feldshuh, and fashion designer Michael Kors, adding to the star-studded celebration.
Featuring music composed by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by W.S. Gilbert, this adaptation, brought to life by Rupert Holmes, includes orchestration by Joseph Joubert and Daryl Waters, with Joseph Joubert handling music direction. The show is choreographed by Warren Carlyle and directed by Scott Ellis. The talented cast stars Ramin Karimloo as the Pirate King, Jinkx Monsoon as Ruth, David Hyde Pierce as Gilbert/Major General Stanley, along with Nicholas Barasch as Frederic, Preston Truman Boyd as Sullivan/Police Sergeant, and Samantha Williams as Mabel Stanley.
This production presents a delightful mix of characters, including the iconic tongue-twisting Major-General, the adventurous Pirate King, and a fresh take on the story’s young lovers, daring daughters, and lively pirates, all promising to entertain both newcomers and Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts alike.

In another theatrical highlight, Jeremy Jordan stars in the compelling musical Floyd Collins, which recounts the true story of a cave explorer in Kentucky during 1925. Floyd’s quest to transform Sand Cave into a tourist attraction takes a harrowing turn when he becomes trapped 200 feet underground. With limited contact to the outside world, including moments with his brother Homer, Floyd’s struggle for survival unfolds against the backdrop of a growing media frenzy surrounding his rescue effort.
